One more country to the 40 °C club! Pinsk, Belarus reached 40.4 °C today, setting a new national heat record. The list of European countries that have never reached 40 °C is getting smaller: basically just the Nordic and Baltic countries, and Ireland. Maybe some microstates too.

Poland's weather service @imgwmeteo.bsky.social is predicting 41 °C for western Poland in Sunday. If verified, it would not only be Poland's new all-time heat record, but also mark the northeasternmost 40°C ever recorded in Europe (and potentially closest 40°C to Finland).

Paris just had their hottest night on record. The temperature did not drop below 26.4 °C at the Montsouris weather station. With daytime highs rising into the 40 degrees yesterday and today in the city of millions, it is unfortunately a deadly heatwave for many.

Meteo-France: Tuesday 23 June 2026 was the hottest day ever recorded in France. The preliminary nation-wide average temperature reached 29.8 °C, surpassing the heatwaves in July 2019 and August 2003.

The European heatwave will move eastward in the coming days and the forecasts for the weekend are insane: close to 40 °C for the Baltic Sea coast. It's only a matter of time when the Nordic countries record their first 40 °C.

Historian toinen kerta, kun Met Office antaa punaisen tason varoituksen helteestä. Ensimmäinen kerta oli heinäkuussa 2022 - silloin Briteissä mitattiin 40,3 astetta. Nyt voidaan päästä lähelle. Erittäin voimakas helleaalto huipentuu lähipäivinä Euroopassa.

ECMWF weekly mean temperature anomaly shows the highest category (>10°C above normal) over France this week. Typically, these colors appear only during winter warm spells, when temperature variability is the largest. Seeing them in mid-summer says a lot about the intensity of this heatwave.

According to BBC weather, the forecast *10-day average maximum temperature" for Paris, France is 37 °C. And two days with 40 °C. ☀️🌡️ Probably not far away from the hottest 10-day period ever recorded in Paris.

The latest forecasts for the western European heatwave are concerning. The subtropical ridge stalls and the extremely warm airmass (T850 ~ 20 °C) will remain in place for at least a week or so. Next week is going to be brutal hot in Spain, France, the UK... ECMWF forecasts for Sun 21 and Sat 27:

Just out: spring 2026 in Finland was the warmest ever recorded, with a mean temperature of 4.6 °C. This also brings the records for all seasons into the 2020s: the warmest winter in Finland was in 2020, the warmest spring in 2026, the warmest summer in 2024, and the warmest autumn in 2020.
