A straight TERF telling a gay person there’s no such thing as the LGBT+ community.
Two points:
1) I’ve been part of my LGBT+ community for 35+ years. From walking clubs to choirs, therapy groups, charity orgs, swimming associations, gay pubs & restaurants.
2) Fuck off Roisin.
The whole Amnesty/Wizard Thatcher circus reminds me of a hated schoolyard bully threatening to beat up a kid unless they promise to always say nice things about them.
Roisin Terfy and Boy Gormless are both learning the first rule of the free market:
No one is stopping you from having your own opinions. But if people don’t like what you say then they’re free to spend their money elsewhere.
This post on Twitter from Owen Jones in response to Roisin Murphy’s lurch into the anti-LGBT+ mire is superb.
Roisin seems to be lashing out because she’s lost her audience of gay men after coming out as a TERF. But at least she has a new audience of transphobic bigots to flog her music to.
What Roisin Murphy, Rowling & Linehan fail to understand about the LGBT+ community is that it partly exists to protect folks who are not heteronormative against bigots just like them. And if you come for one of us, you come for us all. The more they attack, the stronger we grow.
Roisin Murphy trawled through Instagram and found one of her old pop songs. When she saw that almost every commentator was critical of her newfound status as a deranged swivel-eyed TERF, she screenshotted their profiles & made a video of them.
All completely normal behaviour 😬
Not an iota of pushback from Roisin Murphy that gay men are “degenerates with mental illnesses”.
These are the same gay men who once religiously bought her records and concert tickets.
And what the fuck load of dog shit is the “rainbow castle”?
A little thought exercise:
Imagine Madonna suddenly spouting white supremacist nonsense, using the “n” word, and aligning herself with racists. Do you think it would damage her career? I think so.
So why do TERFs think that their vile ideology is any more acceptable than racism?
