Well, it is Monday and time to get this week started. Quick check in for the week ahead: are we still pretending the whole Mitch McConnell vanishing act is normal? (Just want to set my expectations accordingly.)

Spending this hot, humid Sunday in the cool AC watching The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and remembering fondly the first time I saw this film 30 years ago at Cinema 21 in Portland. Much has changed in my life since then, but my ❤️ for independent arthouse theaters remains constant.

A fantastic interview with Jia Tolentino on Fresh Air. It is sobering to think about some of the ways the digital age is changing how we think about, and understand, our world. Thanks to Jia Tolentino, Tonya Mosley, and @nprfreshair.bsky.social www.npr.org/2026/07/22/n...

Here is the full video of the Portland Pickles baseball game and the kiss scene (starting at 02:02:10). 😘 Loved it. Faux News, naturally, is concerned about the kids. But it was Heated Rivalry night at the ballpark, after all. 😀 m.youtube.com/watch?v=OjX8...

I spent my Sunday evening reading the first half of Benjamin Alire Saenz‘s book Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I am loving the book, and can‘t wait for the second half. #SummerReading

Beautifully written by Dr. Elizabeth Cavicchi. Her words stand in stark contrast to Sam Altman‘s „We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.” fnl.mit.edu/may-june-202...
