good point here: if Badenoch and her defenders’ excuse is “people like Kemi, but they haven’t forgiven the last government” then why isn’t Kemi apologising for the last government, making a big deal of kicking Truss out of the party, etc etc

But also: absolutely I believe the Tory party brand is really damaged. That’s why the prospective Tory PM spends at least half the parliament visibly eating shit on tv whilst apologising profusely and sincerely: her tactic has been “yeah, Reform are right, we were terrible [shrug] vote for me!”

Decided to break my boycott and see what they’re saying about the Scottish Labour leadership election, and surely they’d be cheaper replacing Andy Maciver with a bit of paper that just says “the unionist parties should be independent of their UK equivalents”?

if anyone’s keeping track, the point at which I decided to entirely stop listening to Holyrood Sources is Andy Maciver saying, in the context of his idee fixe about Scottish branches of UK parties being doomed, that Anas Sarwar didn’t do anything wrong.

Actually quite angry reading this. I know it’s a bit passé to talk about “why don’t politicians crack down on people not using headphones on the bus” but I think we do need to reckon with platforms that incentivise people to completely disregard the norms of civil society and get away with it.

I note that candidates need the support of 3 Labour MSPs, and there are only 17. If Marra and Lennon pick up decent numbers between them then the space for long shot candidates seems fairly limited.
