Someone on LinkedIn argued that the EU’s decision to restrict the release of Copernicus imagery following a US request undermines European sovereignty. I think the argument is worth discussing, although I am not fully convinced by the way sovereignty is being defined here. 2/9

I am really curious about this topic as something seems to be happening. ODCs will never replace terrestrial data centers but could you imagine different maybe complementary business cases, like providing extra compute power at times of high demand or security related advantages or something else?

Compute in space is hard because of radiation and temperature variatons. Could this be a game changer? "Intel has spent the past several years quietly developing a processor for satellites ... The processor is designed for resilient, high-power performance in space." #ODC

The US and China, and even Europe will put thousands of new satellites into orbit over the next years. They will all deorbit over the next 5 to 15 years. Most of the will burn up in the atmosphere during reentry from space and we don't know yet the effects on our atmosphere.
