It never fails. At my base, if you don't stay on top of mowing your back yard you get a note saying you have 48 hours to correct it or they notify your First Sergeant. For some reason they never ever send these notes out on Fridays, but always early in the week when everyone works during the day.

Hell, I'm pretty sure that by most socially-accepted standards, I'm considered a pretty decent guy and I know for a fact there are folks who have spoken ill of me already. I promise not to be mad if they want to keep talking shit after I've become past-tense.

It is my hope that when I die, the world doesn't say a loud "good riddance bitch." I am trying to avoid that fate by *not* being a spectacularly awful person. However, if I do become awful, have at it. aka: Consequences.

"You should never speak ill of the dead!" Historians:

Wayne's World: I Was Not Aware Of ThatAlt: Wayne's World: I Was Not Aware Of Thatstatic.klipy.comKate Watson

Once again for those at the back: ‘Don’t speak ill of the dead’ is about your great aunt Elsie, who liked a long gin with a short tonic at elevenses, and blew your inheritance money betting on the horses. Speaking ill of absolute monsters is a moral obligation, actually.

Apropos of nothing, the best argument in favor of BCE/CE over BC/AD is that it is based on a single language and not a confusing mix of English and Latin.

You will never guess the context for this 😂

“Olive Garden. When you’re here, you’ll need ID.”

So now we are gatekeeping how one obtains dopamine? The big takeaway from posts like yours and the rest comes down to: Questioning his claim because it is not your experience, so therefore something is amiss.

This reminds me of the half-joke about how computer geeks don't really trust technology as far as they can throw it because they know better.

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

I have an idea: Everyone with a net worth of more than a million dollars should be conscripted for military service where they will specifically be required to work rear-area support jobs like logistics, maintenance, etc.

Better Things Are Possible

Once you have a lot of money it becomes easier to get more money by doing nothing, which disincentivizes work. This is why all our billionaires post insane bullshit all day. If they had to work they'd be too busy to act like this, doubly benefiting society

If I forgot to say so on here, Supergirl is, in my not so humble opinion, a great film. The protagonists are hurting and messy and as a result the whole film takes on an entirely different tone than Superman did the previous year.

Chanda Prescod-Weinstein 🌌

Hey so also: it’s available on streaming, and I really think you should watch Supergirl, which is about women healing from trauma and beating the shit out of sex trafficking incels. news.chanda.science/archive/you-...

On this note, one of these days I'm going to have to watch a Christopher Nolan film that doesn't have Batman in it. Given my usual tastes it's honestly weird that I haven't seen any of his other stuff.

Having finally read Emily Wilson's review of Nolan's The Odyssey that has Nolan's fans so up in arms, that's an entirely fair (and excellently crafted) critique. Even without having seen The Odyssey, the failings Wilson cites are what constantly plague his films, and she is not being ungenerous. ->

I have encountered a mildly annoying bug in IMDB's search engine. One time in however many searches, instead of pulling up search results, it sends me to a login page. Running the search again clears this out but it's still a weird thing for it to do.

I'm in my 40s. In the active-duty military, that makes me a wizened elder who tells tales around the campfire.

John Scalzi

I'm 57. That actually qualifies as "old" in a lot of circumstances. I still say I'm going to film or tape things. I still say I'm going to dial someone's phone number. I still say "emoticon" from time to time. It's fine.

Shout out to all the MAGA types eating salad this week because they refuse to live in fear. Make sure you stock up on toilet paper and pedialyte.

Nobody: Me: What if we paid Lockheed-Martin to stretch the C-5 Galaxies like they did with the C-141 Starlifters?
