These were people with BUSY busy lives — kids of their own, complicated work schedules, long commutes, a million more stressors than our cushy remote-working email-job-having asses… And they had taken these kids in of their own volition, mostly uncompensated or not-nearly-adequately-compensated.

When my partner and I (upper-middle-class, college educated, White) became foster parents we had to do endless trainings with other foster parents and we were always the only non-Black/brown, non-blue collar people on those calls. Some had a prior connection to the kids they fostered. Most did not.
