There’s no “policy” behind this. It’s just racism-fed cruelty… and it turns out unsurprisingly that is disastrously bad for the economy to boot

On Monday evening, Haitian workers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport burst into tears as they were asked to turn in their badges. Marlene, 47, a single mother who has worked as an airport janitor for 12 years, said she has been sick to her stomach.

Rely on text and image extruders, aka chatbots, end up looking like an incompetent loser. Come to think of it, even if you get away with it (cuz you got lucky and the model got it right), if you rely on them, you are an incompetent loser.

"A Reuters analysis found the image of the map included in the presentation contained an artificial intelligence watermark that signals it was made with OpenAI tools." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Saw this segment while watching the NewsHour tonight. Terrible… but then… good *exposure* a) of this admin’s pathetic incompetence, b) of the pathetic uselessness of these genAI products. Also good: @pbsnews.org’s editorial choice to include this story.

The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.

Hanging with my dad who watches one of the network nightly news. So I saw it tonight. I’m seasick from the chaotic way the stories - from the sham Fauci hearing, to floods somewhere, to a road rage incident, to Iran, to a feel good piece - are strung together, punctuated by wacky commercial breaks.

Ever a good reminder

We can hope that, someday soon, this will end up being *the* case study of SUPPLY (having been decided for us, over-hyped, and then dumped/forced on us everywhere while so much about the products was experimental and clearly harmful) where there was no real DEMAND. Article link below.

My dad’s neighbors (who are of Russian descent) very graciously brought him a meal to show concern on my mom’s passing. Since I was over, I tried it. Oh my goodness, Golubtsi, where you have been all my life? It was SO good.

“As a librarian, I think it’s important to see this as…helping people reclaim their autonomy over whether they want to use AI tools,” Bailey said. “It’s important, especially when it can be so difficult not to use them, and when the design seems to force adoption” Librarians to the rescue (again)

Correction: Trump to emit mouth gasses consisting of lies and boastful gibberish in Michigan ahead of primaries

I really enjoyed this. Recommended. “What I object to more than anything else is having those tools constantly thrown in your face, trying to force you to use them. If they’re so great, why do we need the constant coercion? Why is it often made so hard to simply say, “No thanks”?”

Seeing as I appear on a couple of Bluesky lists accusing me of it, I thought I'd better mention a few salient things.

With the loss of someone close to me, FB (which I had deactivated) has proven useful in getting the sad news out. And I've appreciated the many expressions of sympathy and support from friends and family there. But as for this, well, I'd rather chew on a mouth full of gravel.

I’m from Michigan… no, I don’t think they’re “making fun of Michigan”

Howard Mortman

"Cool kids on the Internet. They're doing the cool kid chatter. Some of 'em might be the coastal elites, making fun of how I talk. But let's be real. They're making fun of Michigan. They're thinking they're better than us. Their jokes, their criticism, only make me fight harder." -- Haley Stevens
