Anyway that’s what happened. This was like 15 years ago.

I called the police and they set up a sting to lure the guy to Farragut Square where they caught him and I got my laptop back. I think the guy went to jail. I wrote a letter to the judge asking for leniency because I got my property back but I don’t think it mattered.

I was informed that I was being laid off from my first job in journalism in DC. That night I went out and foolishly got very drunk. I left my laptop in the back of the cab on my way home and the guy who found it called me and tried to extort me for a lot of money to get it back.
