"...then destroying them at incredible scale, even if no copies remain." Come again what “The optics problem is real,” ISBNdb’s site says. “‘AI company destroys two million books’ is not a headline that generates sympathy.”

LUVTOFU by Harryette Mullen (from Regaining Unconsciousness) (I love this)

Speaking of smart people finding other ways to poetics, I had missed any discussion of Jordan Abel's newest, Dad Era (chbooks.com/Books/D/Dad-...), which I stumbled on at a fantastic bookstore in Huntsville

Does ignoring AI mean a retrenchment into the lyric mode, a return to authenticity and the individual voice? I assume there's lots of smart people finding a third way.

I'm so curious about how poets and poetics, especially as conceptualism recedes as a movement, to the coming of AI. I feel like it's mostly being ignored after years of attention to experiments with rewritings and stolen texts (share.google/GGTQTGOPuRd3...).

Where are the poets talking to each other these days? Is it on here? Have they fled back to print mags? Are they hiding in the crevices of Reddit? Is there a walled garden somewhere full of Lisa Robertsons and Sina Queyras and Derek Beaulieus arguing about poetics?

Explaining the Bechdel Test to my ten-year-old at bed time after watching Night at the Museum

I love trying to explain broadcast (cable) television when in a hotel to my ten-year-old. She doesn’t understand why it’s the middle of a show, what these commercials are, why she can’t pause it, and the very basic confusion of choosing channels but not content. None if it makes sense to her as TV.

What are you listening to now that Slate’s Culture Gabfest has ended?

I've had multiple casual conversations this summer with parents who, when asked how they like their local school, make derisive and sometimes hushed comments about how the school spends too much time teaching about "77 genders" (with nudge nudge eyeroll). What is going on with this bigotry?

Drinking game— Every time someone says, “It feels like a sauna out here!” take a sip of water.

Glad they are covering this, but WHY would @canadaland.com frame the important issue of ag-gag laws as “Why do animal rights activists believe they should have a right to lie?” (??), as opposed to asking why the government is criminalizing undercover reporting? That is such terrible framing.

This poor cyber truck parked on the sidewalk on Arlington in Toronto. Aw maybe it’s lost? How did it get stuck up on that sidewalk like that? Maybe it needs help?
