Dynamism personified. Proud supporter of the “fuck you, make me” approach to tyranny.

I was looking at the latest @cnn.com poll and there was something in the data which made me go down a bit of a rabbit hole. It has to do with some interesting trends with the strongly approve/disapprove numbers for Trump, particularly when you compare trends in his first and second terms. 1

Not to worry! I am sure the Harpers Letter signatories are currently preparing a blistering takedown of this college’s/business’s/state government’s/local government’s/administration’s blatant attack on free speech.

We (the general mass of people opposed to Trump) need to understand that millions of our fellow citizens do not get a lot of news about Trump. Local TV news is the primary source of news for a huge swath of Americans and its coverage of Trump is virtually nonexistent.

These numbers should make me happy or at least feel vindicated but all of these things (except the ballroom, I guess) were obvious two years ago and people voted for him anyway.

I really like this from @joshtpm.bsky.social but I have a question about the dot com bubble- were there as many major players as heavily leveraged as we currently see with AI?

This has broadly been the case for his presidency (and the period between), the average American is presented a Trump who does not exist.

Matt Negrin still host of Hardball on MSNBC

Not a single network aired this on their nightly news broadcasts yesterday. They described Trump overseeing a "somber ceremony" and called it a "moving moment." The only way to know what trump actually said about the soldiers he killed is to follow aaron rupar which no offense to aaron is insane

This is something I’ve thought for a while now, rather than confront their collective failure in stopping this, they’ve ignored it.

so many DC elites are desperately attempting to pantomime the old norms, like if you pretend hard enough then you won’t have to face the incredibly obvious threat of MAGA authoritarianism

I don’t think it would solve everything but if @nytimes.com, @cnn.com, @npr.org, and others just simply dedicated themselves to the truth (both finding and telling), we’d be in so much better shape.

This post from @eschatonblog.com gets at something that has been broadly true about how Trump and the GOP is covered- there is zero ‘curiosity’ about them and I can’t seem to find a satisfactory answer for that.

Trying to appease fascists is the real world equivalent of Tobias Fünke telling arguing that his open marriage will work.

For two decades, I’ve had to listen to my colleagues bemoan political polarization but it’s always been clear that the bigger problem is stuff like this.

Sen. Adam Schiff

What I’ll remember most about Senator Graham was his sense of humor and how he deployed it to move his policy positions forward. Though we did not often agree, Senator Graham was never disagreeable.
