This Hamas deal sounds like one of the 8 wars Trump has ended, including the Russia-Ukraine one he was ending on Day One of his presidency. Then, there's the victory over Iran he's been declaring for months while the Strait of Hormuz stays closed and Iranian missiles rain down on the Middle East.

And yet there is no other way - certainly not the populist “pull up the drawbridge” way.

Globally, millions are on the move - because of climate change, war, poverty etc - and the numbers are mushrooming. Pulling up the drawbridge cannot work. A solution requires rich countries to confront the causes rather than descend into populism. We must find a way to reduce global inequality.

Anyone feeling a lot safer now in this world in which Trump promised to end major wars on Day One of his Presidency?

I should emphasise that, although the Earth would be at -18 degrees C without greenhouse effect of water vapour, and carbon dioxide has dug the planet out of 3 Snowball Earth phases, our greenhouse emmissions are nevertheless making the planet uninhabitable for us.
