i had assumed something was fine which i had not proven thoroughly enough to actually be fine

fixing stabilizer took a good chunk of the weekend, the hitching didn't take long to fix it just wasn't obvious while i had to fix the brush itself. pain deep in my soul to fix the brush then immediately run into a bunch of ~250ms delays after every action (on normally <1ms stuff)

the stabilizer was broken because of a timing problem (display timings ahead of event timings + input queue being cleared at bad times) and the hitching was because i broke the tile cache updating so it was re-rendering the whole page (a4 600dpi default) every time i did literally anything

i fixed all the stuff that made drawing awful at least. no more constant hitching or choppy lines from broken stabilizer timing + tools like liquify and transform are fast now

"i have fixed it," i declare, moments before having to burn a weekend fixing it more. whatever i guess here's a random scribble now that the brush moves properly again

after a couple days long detour fixing a couple nasty bugs and optimizing my paint program more, high resolution drawings are no longer an issue & i can get back to using it. it was a bit hard to draw in it with glitchy display and leaking gigabytes of ram after a few mins of work (oops)
