TLDR: the movement was moderately electorally successful. Losing challengers affected incumbent rhetoric and cosponsorship, moving them slightly more toward accommodating progressive challengers' positions. Progressive challengers have not been nearly as successful as Tea Party

I read one critique about a change in methdology in the US survey he's using -- so that's a more charitable read? But all things considered, the US has a relatively small gender gap among young people. That doesn't mean that there isn't any, but in overall political orientation, it seems minimal!

Yes it's self-IDed left-right (0-10), which I standardize within country. What I'm interested in comparing cross-nationally is the extent of the within-country gap, not the absolute left-right placements. I agree that those would be much harder to interpret as generalizing between dif countries

My main theory in the paper is about two aspects of labor markets having differential effects on young women & men & thus the gap between their politics. I have a control for the UN's gender inequality index but I haven't yet separately regressed the gender gap on this gender inequality -- I should!

Would be very interested in your analysis of France! I've been working on this off and on, focused on the young portion, but what I find interesting is how much variation there is. Young women seem to be the most consistently left group, but there is tremendous variation for young men (eg US vs ND)
