Private equity killed newspapers, right-wing billionaires killed TV news (local & national), Rush Limbaugh killed radio news, tech broligarchs overwhelmed online news, Trump & Musk killing PBS/NPR. Don’t blame people for not following the news. Blame greedy, unregulated capitalists.

Fiction is essential to civic health. People who read fiction have lived in other countries, experienced poverty and wealth, known hardship and success, loved and lost, despaired and survived, committed crimes and acts of charity, led revolutions and lost wars. Fiction is humanity’s empathy garden.

Half are men on federal visas and work permits. Their lawyers probably told them to go or invite trouble. The rest are mostly unschooled millionaires who still see the WH as a positive symbol (not the workplace of a tyrant). And almost all are rich, who tend to support the SOB-in-Chief.
