Moths in a human suit (they/them)

Профиль Vively

A collection of moths trying to cosplay a human interdisciplinary artist. MedSci escapee, always drawing or making paint. In my chaos-bisexual-enby-hag era. Moths, paint-making, disability, & art sh*t-posting. lycomorpha.etsy.com & mothsinahumansuit.uk

Because my brain is a gigantic shitpickle, I can already see a hundred things I want to change. But I'm being disciplined enough to leave them while I finish this round of shading, please clap. (Specifically tho, the curling edge of that leaf ain't right, & I need to lighten the background a bit)

In an attempt to be able to draw this without cooking, I've moved my stuff the cooler room. There's not much space, so its perched on a desk-easel on a nonslip mat. I've got all the pencils I need but it's a bit tricky to take a picture! Hopefully you can see there's some good leafy progress tho 😁

Mate, I so need this heatwave+drought to end. It's melting my brain! (Meanwhile, the UK govt: let's drill for oil some more in the north sea, that'll fix things! 🙃🙃🙃)

Indeedy. This heatwave+drought is getting to me now, I think. 🫠

...For less formal stuff I like W&N or Seawhite papers. I have Seawhite travel sketchbooks too. I love their stuff. Also got some Leuchtturm1917 sketchbooks but they're a bit pricey and the paper is better for mixed media cos it's quite shiny.

TBH I'm not sure. But when I'm using good quality drawing paper I don't have that problem. I have found that with some watercolour papers, where I think maybe the surface isn't designed for that? FWIW, my favourite good paper is Legion Stonehenge fine art paper, &...

…Then I flip the sketch over, put it on the lightbox and trace from the back so that the transferred tracing is the right way round. Honestly tho I have the spatial skills of a small potato, so I have to draw markers/cross-hairs/a grid on everything so I don't get disoriented 🙃🤷

…Then I use tracing paper transfer (but def not carbon paper - just tracing paper, turn it over, draw over the tracing, y'know?) I either scan my sketch & digitally flip it before tracing, so that it's the right way round when I transfer the tracing. Or if the sketch is on thin enuf paper...

I use tracing paper transfer or the lightbox. In either case I draw cross-hairs or a grid to make sure things end up in the right place. Often I scan my outline drawing, digitally enlarge it, then lightbox it onto a new sheet. If the 'good paper' means a particularly heavy paper like 300gsm cotton…

We're fortunate that we only have one particularly stingy species around here, your regular jasper. & They generally mind their own business.

010

Ahh that's a shame. We haven't had any stinging wasps set up in bad places yet. We have potter and digger wasps which are delightful tho. & A wild array of those wasps with extra long pointy bums that poke through tree bark (ichneumon wasps maybe?)

We have a bunch of ground nesting bees around here. Earlier in the year we get mining bees & carder bees, then later bumbles. Friggin delightful beasts! We get mason bees int walls & leafcutter bees sometimes too!

Actually, having thought about how many other things happen to my phone on an average week... Maybe it has a point. 😬
