Amazing work and a great thread on this fantastic paper about how flies control breathing during flight.
Yichen Luo 骆奕辰2/8 Insects breathe through spiracles: tiny valves in the cuticle that open to take in oxygen and close to prevent water loss. Drosophila have 18 spiracles. I filmed them in flying flies and found their opening tracks flight power moment to moment and shrinks when the fly gets dehydrated.
