My advice would be to space them out — I have enjoyed each subsequent volume basically in proportion to how recently I’d read the prior one. You feel the specialness of the project (rather than tediousness) when you set aside and come back to it!

Meaning Will didn’t say “black people are holding back the left” but that a particular part of black pol leadership is — which many other black politicians also say — so I think you’re misleading your audience by using that to attack AES. And I don’t think that’s as smart as other things you post!

This movie 97% friggin rocked. And then it looks ridiculous when it’s supposed to be representing the sexual. A shame!

The former is most successful when Wilson is pointing out where the film undermines itself (image 1) — and least successful when it’s just “this thing I like wasn’t also in the movie” (image 2).

This review is a really weird mix of Expert Scholarly Perspective and Gratuitous Random Sniping and the latter really undermines the former for me.

Listen I don’t think this film is unassailable but also… if you’re not Emily Wilson commissioned to write a clicky takedown, you simply aren’t allowed to write like this. It’s bad criticism!
