One of the best ways to do traffic calming: entrance to a side street turned into a small square in front of a local pub / café, preventing rat running & creating a social space, while allowing pedestrians and cyclists to move freely.

It's a reason for the sprinters to stay in the race, too. Otherwise even more sprinters will end having a stomach infection the moment they are out of the points classification. 🤪

The '89 one was wild (I remember watching it), but that was a once-in-a-lifetime event. There's a real risk of a final ITT being a stage where only Ganna and Evenepoel, and maybe two GC guys fighting for #6, go for it.

The Champs-Élysées stage is one of the best sprints in the calendar, with the prestige, the cobbles, and the slight uphill all adding to the intensity. I do not think spring stages are a waste; sprints are part of cycling, and this one is an exciting one.
