here is another response to “well AI is good at ___” —the race to make LLMs the omniscient multitool is diverting resources and attention from the bespoke models like this protein folder, because a) most people don’t know the difference and b) this is about selling a product.
Dan McQuillanAlphaFold was always bait-and-switch; now Google confirms it. A hyper-narrow bioinformatrics model with actual science bolted on whose guesses can be experimentally checked was never a licence for socially-applied slop at scale, but it's done its job. Effort transferred to LLMs.

the same type of people who "couldn’t do" pronouns and are aghast at the inclusion of multiple gender options on a survey are like “please record your sex ten different ways, including official documentation of the appearance of your baby-self's genitals"
Ethel WeaponThe implementation guidance equates "Sex at birth (observed)" with "phenotypic sex". Which suggests trolling or massive stupidity. Sex at birth doesn't determine what a person's "phenotypic" sex is. Gender affirming healthcare can change primary and secondary sexual characteristics...

have been reading @rahimk.bsky.social's great book tracing, among other things, how military housing eventually turned into public housing in LA County... this has been the real fed public-housing policy for decades, when it’s never “it’s too $$$ to build new units now"

After the warped TESCREAL worldview (allegedly) hinged on stuff like Peter Singer’s utilitarian "would you save the drowning child across the world”, it’s significant that kids in those places are being rhetorically erased by people like Musk, who just literally erased them.
