Portland, the Bay Area, Miami etc face draconian service cuts that would drive away riders— for good. Del Mastro's good usually, but I disagree with his take on Europe. Japan and Korea have miserably hot summers, their cities are walkable and transit-friendly, and summer is fine there because of A/C. Europeans just need to get over their hangups about air conditioning. Easier said than done, obvi.

this is basically right. proposition 13 was a terrible idea, but it was sold as a measure to keep granny from being forced out of her home in a time of high inflation. it makes no sense to give the same tax breaks to commercial and industrial property.
