A bear of very little brain who still likes to read a lot, especially non-fiction. Brentford supporter. Doctor Who fan. Old. https://www.youtube.com/@Lokster71

Been to the Imperial War Museum, then had dinner and drinks with Mum, Dad and Little Brother. Now at British Library.

Am at Waterloo waiting for my Dad and brother to show up before we go to the Imperial War Museum, which I’m looking forward to.

This is going to sound silly but I just read Chapter 2 of 'The Wind in the Willows'. A book I've not read since I was a teenager. And after Toad's caravan has been totalled by the passing of a car Toad makes a little speech and he sounds like a Futurist. (I've been reading Futurist Manifestos)

They should ban them from flying. I'm sure God will give her wings.

Raw Story

Florida evangelist Whitney Lynn declared "we're in the last days" as flight crew escorted her off a flight out of Orlando for preaching the gospel, according to her latest social media posts.

Look these people won't be satisfied until trans people are driven behind closed doors and any attempt to support them is silenced. All this bile and hatred aimed at a tiny number of people. Despite all evidence that attacks on women invariably come from men they know.

Nikko

Oh... lookit that

I listen to podcasts when I go to sleep. Not because the podcasts put me to sleep but I hate silence when I'm trying to sleep. It also makes me...nervous.

On the subject of people in The Haunting of Villa Diodati. If I lived near Chicago and not in London I'd be off to this like a shot. Big Mary Shelley fan. I'm a big fan of Shelley, Byron etc too even though I know they have major arsehole capacity.

Reminder that my Frankenstein exhibit opens September 24. Opening reception details here: calendars.illinois.edu/detail/2169?...

This just reminds me that if I'm going to work on the project I'm planning I need to re-learn how to make effective notes. I think these days I'm over-noting.

Tony Cross

Index cards for notes is interesting. I've always just gone straight into notebook. And it is cute.

Maxine Alderton making Byron a coward in the Doctor Who story 'The Haunting of Villa Diodati'. Byron was many things - some good, some bad - but he was never a coward. I like that story too but that really gets on my nerves.

What is an extremely nerdy/obscure/specific thing you hate with a white-hot wrath?

Just do a little less content. Give yourself some breathing space. If you explain it to the people that follow you they'll understand. Or use ChatGPT and then make people wonder about how many other times you've used it and provides cover for people who want to justify using it.

Omg not Hank Green using AI for research and calling to his “bad habit” 💀😭🤡

Robert Jenrick is a careerist weasel who would dress up in an SS Uniform if he thought it might get him a bit more publicity and a bit more power.

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)

Robert Jenrick (7pm) tweeting about "30,000 military age men rampaging through Spanish territory" long after the return rate was over 90%

Is this true? I mean killing people is worse but the IDF are an cultural destructive military as well as being rapists, racists, torturers, and child killers but you know only democracy in the Middle East. So, kill and destroy away you murderous bastards.

💥 700 tons of explosives. Israel detonated 700 tons of explosives beneath Beaufort Castle in South Lebanon, in the middle of the night. A 900-year-old Crusader castle that UNESCO just listed as endangered heritage. @sarahabdallah.bsky.social

I have done that thing today where I read a bit of a book - a chapter here, an introduction there - then put it down. Then wondered off and picked up a different book.

I've seen people talking about the British at Dunkirk 'running away', which suggests they'd rather the British Army had been captured by the Germans. Which probably would have ended the war. The French fought harder than people say but what would history say of a British Army that was thrown away?

This is going to end with him becoming a cannibal.

Wife gets terrible corns and I've developed a liking for cutting them out. Helps her immensely and I've got a new hobby collecting them which so far contains 4 large and 12 small. I'd forgotten how satisfying developing a new interest is.

I hope to see Elon Musk in prison one day. Or stripped of his wealth and sent into exile on St Helena.

As soon as a University does this its management team should be fired and replaced with people who aren't terrible arseholes. Also I bet Sunderland's senior management will be coining it in.

Margot Finn

Another one bites the dust. All new Sunderland casual tutors employed from 1 August will be ineligible for TPS, and employed by the University's wholly-owned subsidiary. UCU estimates this will save SU £36,000 this year while it will see savings going forward due to lower TPS costs of £3M p.a.

In fact @merriam-webster.com I think you could make a story telling game out of this depending on the year.

When I saw this at the Prince Charles it was the first time that I'd noticed that when they blow the bridge up a chunk of rock just misses Eastwood and Wallach. I suspect if it had hit either of them it would have done some damage.
