At home recovering from the ER but still in a lot of pain with more questions than answers. Right now, I’m limited in what I can do to fight for my unemployment and now, I’ve got bills and meds to pay for. Continued aid is incredibly welcomed due to immediacy of my current situation!
Cy CatwellI got a verdict today: after ten weeks, the state of WA is denying my unemployment, leaving me with an amount in the negative (currently at -$120) and more legwork to do to try and stay afloat while I make an appeal and try to survive until then. Calling again for very immediate aid:

Appreciate that this touches on how awful MTPE (machine translation post-editing) is, and glad that there are still some companies who refuse to use it. Also, reminder that contractors are far more likely to get shafted in the credits, either being reduced to a company name or nothing at all.
KotakuThousands of full-time video game industry workers have been laid off in the last several years as game companies scramble to cut costs. But there are even more cuts happening quietly to contract workers, wh... https://kotaku.com/amidst-mass-layoffs-contract-workers-devastated-video-games-2000718416

I was speaking to a localizer once of a well-loved series - to the point where the publisher knows full-well that localization is a big part of why it is successful in the west - and they remarked "What if [localizer] gets in a car wreck? They're the VOICE of that character. We'd be screwed."
Trick WeekesOne of the things that, as lead writer, I had to bang into the head of senior leadership sometimes was that writers were not interchangeable even within a project. One writer knew a certain companion inside and out. When we lost that writer, a new writer coming in took twice as long to do the work.

A hidden terribleness about the AI translations of older games that keep popping up lately - in this case Tricolor Crise for the Dreamcast - is the way they knock the wind out of the sails of the people who are trying to actually do it properly. LLM version didn't even use the right character names.
YuviI have been working on this game with a real proper translation for quite some time now. This whole thing has just been a slap to my face for all the time and effort I've put into making something great for this great game. This person gives zero F's about this game; they just chose it because.
Here's an interview with the other French translator, Jean-Baptiste Fleury, in which he seems to speak about his work on OoT (I don't speak French, so...): www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VLl...
(Also all of the Japanese N64 speedruns seem to include all the people you mentioned in the in-game credits? So they were credited in the 1998 release, unless the NA version weirdly removed them? Haven't been able to find a verified NA N64 credit sequence.) www.speedrun.com/oot/runs/mrk...
French translator Julien Bardakoff says he worked on OoT on his linkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/julien-ba... There is also an interview with him here where he seems to talk about his work on the game: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N7b...
Jim Wornell also talks about his work on the original Ocarina of Time in this interview. And the Japanese manual (archive.org/details/Ocar...) corroborates all those names except for Wornell and the NOA Support people.

NEW BLOG FOR YOU Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too. A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI: ketanjoshi.co/2026/07/01/g...
