Glad to see my union is stepping up in this moment.
AAUP🧵on the AAUP endorsement of Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate in the Michigan Democratic primary, the first-ever electoral endorsement in the organization's 110-year history. 1

Teaching writing is an art. Getting a student past big anxiety. Pushing them to have confidence to trust that their ideas are valuable. Teaching them *enough* grammar to vary and connect sentences so a paragraph doesn't sound like a bulleted list. And on and on. But sure. Throw that out.
Lisa DiedrichBy closing its writing center, Harvard is showing utter contempt for teaching & learning, as well as faculty & students.
No professional accomplishment has ever made me happier than this. theonion.com/translator-o...
My latest Reading Notes piece on encountering James Baldwin's The Evidence of Things Not Seen in Christina Sharpe's Ordinary Notes. www.lisadiedrich.org/reading-note...
Her latest publication is “Foodborne & emerging diseases outbreaks: Lessons learned & best practices study report” (publichealth.jhu.edu/sites/defaul...) Her expertise would be enormously helpful to the US right now —instead, the MAGA/MAHA Administration kidnapped her & put her in ICE detention 😢
Aaron Reichlin-MelnickWow! ICE’s airport arrests of people seemingly waiting in government immigration backlogs caught up a Fulbright scholar and public health researcher working at Johns Hopkins in their public health department. Not exactly the “worst of the worst”! Yet they threw her in detention anyway.
Infantino's plans are a puffed up mix of corruption & sexism (women's football is not even mentioned). So glad to see this forceful & united response from UEFA.
Nathan Kalman-LambUEFA has just unanimously decided to boycott both men's and women's World Cups over FIFA's attempt to sell the global game to private equity. Damn.

Lisa DiedrichStuart Hall on “Studying the Conjuncture" is so good: “If you don't agree there is a good degree of openness & contingency to every historical conjuncture, you don't believe in politics. You don't believe that anything can be done." youtu.be/bHpht1nNtB0?...
This is another interesting piece on Burnham from Rafael Behr: "What the prime minister has done is trace Britain’s present malaise to choices made in the Thatcher era." www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"For over 20 yrs, Jane Rosenzweig has been the source of the Writing Center’s success. She has been responsible for the rigorous training of generations of undergrad tutors, a process of dialogue & reflection that begins the moment a tutor is hired at the Writing Ctr & continues thru to graduation."
Beautifully said: "The task of the tutor goes well beyond proofreading or even critiquing a piece of writing; the tutor’s purpose is to engage in a conversation that helps a writer hone their ideas in order to better express them on the page. These convos are exercises in reciprocal education."
Rebecca Colesworthy“Closing the Writing Center and removing its leadership now sends a disturbing signal about how seriously Harvard actually takes [its] mission.” Closing a writing center or library or dept or program or university press—an attack on one is an attack on all. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...
