Oh, why can’t things be forever exactly like they were in 2005 when I started grad school?

Who physically goes to banks anymore (by car or foot)?

We can drink coffee or wine while playing games. You can be over there drinking coffee or wine and not playing games. We all good?

If you have an academic in your life who is on the quarter system give them a call and tell them to enjoy the Schadenfreude. :)

Yes. It works better on some fabrics than others. For thinner or more slippery fabrics it often comes undone while riding.

Re how many geniuses & light bulbs: “The light bulbs in the main room are so high that staff need to bring in a specialized lift to replace them. But the original floor, which is raised to hold the building’s heat and ac, couldn’t support the weight, so they had to reengineer from the ground up.”

“In fact, nearly all of the library’s 10,000 windows need to be replaced. To do so, each will need to be custom fit by the one company in Italy that produced them in the first place and will cost an average of $30,000 — about $300 million for the building.”

In a sense we shouldn’t trust our neighbors with anything bc they might mess it up. Our family members might also mess our things up. It has to be rooted in connections + accountability (contracts are a start). The “way” is not random trust for random people, it’s connections with neighbours.

E-bikes are so much faster and more direct than buses in all but a handful of urban situations.

I literally thought the same thing as you: my kid makes such direct eye contact, there’s no way. And then a couple years later…. Things play out in different ways.

Feely 😜

Our ND has a mix of intense eye contact when interested/engaged vs atypical eye contact in general social environments “when you are supposed to make eye contact.” I don’t think that’s an unusual combo.

Get thee to a cloister, Elon.

This is the book to read to get into the weeds on this. Short answer: no. Mass proselytizing (if “regular” means that) only happens historically with power and mass conquest. www.ucpress.edu/books/the-be...

The Beginnings of Jewishness by Shaye Cohen - PaperScholarship is a powerful tool for changing how people think, plan, and govern. By giving voice to bright minds and bold ideas, we seek to foster understanding and drive progressive change.www.ucpress.edu

Can’t cross that bridge when you come to it if there is no bridge

I know! :( But the museums will remain.

What is the psychology of treating flashing lights as a more important signal to stop than the sight of a human in front of you?
