No matter which social event I went to during the past month and no matter how small the gathering was, I could always meet at least one jobless person there 😧 Do jobless people naturally find each other?

Being jobless, it's so easy to get emotional. Anything could trigger me.

Over the past few days I've seen lots of chatter about the recent research funding cuts in the UK. It seems that it affects UK chemists in my field a lot. Also, it seems that my field is dying in every country these years because of the funding cuts. What a time I'm living in!☹️

Talked to a recent master's graduate today. When I told her that I'm not just applying for PhD-level jobs but also applying for jobs that don't require a PhD, she looked scared and said 'If PhDs are competing for jobs with me, I will never have a chance.' 😟

I'm shocked to learn that some postdoc positions in Italy require applicants to pay an application fee (€30) 😬👎

I'm surprised to hear that many people have been killed by the current heatwave in Europe. The system fails so hard.

Had a meetup today with a few other jobless people who were scientists. None of us feels hopeful. No one has any good strategies to deal with this shitty job market any more. 😩
