There have been times in my life when I wouldn't have risked the 50k though I think rationally I would have been wrong.

It's about like, how much I need it. £50k would be a pretty great thing to have. It would improve my life. It wouldn't be life-changing. Half a million - the expected value of the other choice - is life-changing. You're asking me to choose between two things, one ten times as valuable, but with risk

Right and obviously mathematically the right answer is: the million. The important thing is that this £50k isn't money I need - so the risk is acceptable.

I don't think so. I wouldn't have time to spend it.

If I was like £50k in debt however I wouldn't take the risk. I'd pay off the debt.

I mean I don't have it right now. What I mean is that if I lose the flip, I walk away with exactly what I had to begin with. So it's fine. £50k would be an amazing amount of money to have, but £1mil would be disproportionately better for the risk involved.

If someone is going around offering people 50k to make that bet you'd better believe I'm making it.

That is not the same as the first thing you said. If someone gives me 50k I'd be perfectly happy to stake it on a 50% chance of 20x my money. That's absurdly good odds. But I wouldn't bet 50k of my own money - I don't have it and if I did I wouldn't choose to stake it.

I mean it is not equivalent to that. Like just straight up on the mathematics it is not.

Expected value is ten times as high and I'm not staking money I don't have. Absolutely I take the risk.

We're currently between cars after our latest banger died and we're giving it a go on not owning one for a bit and seeing how we get on. Though unfortunately we have a journey in October that may not be possible any other way.

They're a strange people.

Yeah it's exactly that. Plus a weird class vibe I think kind of? Hard to describe. I don't think the rich do swinging or poly so much as they just fuck. They can afford to not invent elaborate rituals. Swinging has a slightly more working-class vibe is my impression.

The swinging scene is an odd one. Somewhat distinct from the poly scene despite having basically the same core interest (having sex with a variety of people).
