Widespread belief that racism isn't real. It can't be the actual explanation for someone's behavior, certainly not someone successful and influential. That's so, ugh, basic. Must be something more reasonable, more about material resources. See also: MAGA is caused and driven by "economic anxiety."

Oliver WillisThis book was published in 2002. Since then the GOP won the presidency 3 times and took control of Congress and the Supreme Court. And one of the coauthors has gone full on reactionary “anti-woke.” The Republican Party isn’t dying any time soon.
