This is why folks in my mom’s hometown in Central Alabama are angry about plans to replace the closed paper mill with a data center.
CZEdwardsData center buildings are pole barns with pretensions. Big box stores are built better. The jobs are mostly HVAC and construction electricians. And they don’t really take specialists to run. They drain your aquifer, noise pollute your neighborhoods, cause brown-outs and employ nobody.
Whether this works will be very interesting to watch. I'm especially interested to see if anyone tries to sabotage the agreement. apnews.com/article/hama...
