…at the roots in the 80s & 90s the secondary snark about ‘the left’ & millenial failings is its own form of learned helplessness & it conflates the worst posters with millions of people around the world who want good things & have tried a lot of different ways to get to them with little success

this is a bit unfair - the best bits of the millenial left have come up against overwhelming, crushing political power & lost, there’s been a struggle for a strategic way forward globalisation means the power is further away from whatever local power you build, & the best of that was torn out

Britain’s economic & political elites have been shown to be clueless bluffers again & again, with no vision, no growth model, no understanding of the geopolitical situation, but that’s never quite articulated in the way you see fire trained on Spencer, Polanski, etc

a lot of this zealous snark is missing the key point that there was profiteering in 22/23, there will be again, & that should be dealt with through tax & collective bargaining (& that it’s a major issue that people don’t understand where money & power actually are in this economy)

loss of hegemony & “end of empire” are not the same thing, hard to understand people conflating the two & being triumphalist about that all so ugly & heading in a very bad direction, but the scale of killing is nowhere near the highest-prestige liberal Pax Americana days
