Andy Burnham has been talking about Social Care a lot. We've had 22 reviews since 1997; it's time for action. In a recent committee session on Social Care, I pressed Baroness Casey and then Minister Stephen Kinnock to report earlier.

That is why I was dissapointed to hear the Conservatives rule out how this may or may not be paid for before any plans have been layed out.

Andy Burnham is right to say that reform of social care is going to take more than a couple of years to solve. You can however lay the foundations for reform and achieve cross party consensus ahead of the next General Election. (1/2)

Around 80% of over 65's will need some form of social care during their later life, and so there is a moral imperative that we get this right. (2/2)

The Prime Minister is completely right to say that we will only solve the problem of social care with cross party consensus. Ed Davey and the Liberal Democrats advocated for this at the last election. (1/2)

The only way we will achieve meaningful reform on adult social care is by working crossing party, and not using this issue as a political football. The consequences of not doing so are dire.

At the start of this Parliament, the Health and Social Care Select Committee published a report detailing the cost of inaction on social care. Whilst reform of the social care system will take some reallocation of resource, doing nothing costs more. (1/2)

There is a moral imperative to reform Adult Social Care. There are over 4 million unpaid carers in this country who provide care equivalent to a second NHS. I am pleased to see that Andy Burnham is willing to spend political capital to fix this issue, but it will be difficult. (1/2)

The weeks-long delay announced today to the Botley Road reopening is calamitous and catastrophic. Local residents and businesses have repeatedly seen goalposts move and promises broken over the course of this shambolic project. I've written to the Transport Secretary to request an urgent meeting.

One of the recommendations of the food environment report is Healthy Start Card's which support families on lower incomes to make healthier choices. We are calling on the Government to ensure that these can be used universally across supermarkets and that the amounts rise with food inflation.

We are pleased that the Government has acknowledged the importance of tackling obesity in the ten year health plan but we are still missing the detail. Our report makes clear that living with obesity or being overweight is not a failure of the individual but rather a product of the food environment

This week I welcomed Abby, Sara and Jude down to Westminster from the constituency to complete work experience in my office. From casework to my role as Chair of the Health Committee, they got the full experience of what a typical week in my office looks like. It was a great pleasure to have them.

I spoke to ITV about the experience that so many share of having their bike stolen in Oxford. We need the police and city council to come together for proper action on safe cycle storage provision, CCTV coverage, and to ensure crimes are followed up and solved more consistently.

I asked our witnesses how we could overcome blocks like this in the process.
