When I went to the lake this evening, I hoped I might spot another firefly. No luck, but it was a lovely view once again, though I paid for it in mosquito bites. The passing cars at the top of the hill bleed light across the trees, making it tricky to capture the stunning red of the rising moon.

After sunset, at the shore. Camera adds light, it was definitely darker than the first two photos show. Gentle waves, bats swooping overhead. Quiet and still, as the late summer crickets and katydids haven’t really started up yet (I think I heard a katydid yesterday, but only in one spot).

Green herons DO have necks, see? Gah, I love them so much 🥰

Photo app offered up a memory of July 28, 2017, when I was very surprised to see a bat flying in afternoon sunlight in Gilford (town on Lake Simcoe not far from where I grew up). Not sure what happened to wake the poor thing but I wondered if it was able to see in such bright light.
