huge mistake and i think it wasn't entirely my fault, the engineering manager was really cagey about the job details during the interview process and i was dumb enough to think that describing what i'd done before in about 10 minutes and asking if he thought i was a good fit was enough to confirm it

also, ren lore: watching that video perfectly encapsulates how i felt at a startup i worked for and really should not have been hired by. i felt so out to sea after that miscommunication, thinking i'd been hired to do the equivalent of fancy plumbing and then asked to do software defined radio.

this show was so good at being Weird in an endearing way, i really haven't seen anything that's surpassed Patriot in the decade since s1, and can only think of few things that have come close to it

maybe i should have more faith in the abilities of humans to learn to do things that seem otherwise absurd on their face

after all, what makes the playlist any different as a form than oil paintings, or forging katana, or architecture?

oh the other hand, i haven't spent decades accumulating expertise in discriminating playlist authors from one another. maybe with enough effort i could learn to do that the way, idk, an art historian could pick out an artist by the subtleties of their brushstrokes and so on

what about special subcategories of text like software? or spreadsheets?

i know how *i* make my own playlists but i can’t really describe what it is and i can’t say that i’d even be able to pick one out from a lineup if a playlist in my style were somehow given to me among others

this feels right but i don’t trust that i have enough perceptual power to actually notice the contours of what makes a playlist attributable to any given author

if you listened to 1,000 spotify playlists, could you learn to do this? the same way as after reading a few dozen paragraphs written by clod or chatty g?

is there enough signal for you to notice when an llm has created, say, a playlist of songs based on someone's prompt?

how many different modalities do you think you could learn to sniff out llms within?
