This is extremely bad, but the blame lies with film rightsholders, not Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime Video isn't like Max or Netflix. It doesn't acquire films. Instead, rightsholders upload films and television TO Prime. This includes regional rightsholders, sublicensors, and public-domain scrapers.

The thing about destructive book-scanning is that, like... books are just paper. Treating them as sacred objects is kinda dumb. There are many times where the world benefits from destructive scanning of even rare texts, which are better off in a public digital database than locked in a vault. But.
