Pretty crazy stuff if you haven't seen it - a game store owner had a box of Super Mario/Duck Hunt carts that turned out to be - brand new - manufactured in 1993 (!) - an extremely late variant unknown to collectors nintendowire.com/news/2026/07...

We discovered a new variant of Super Mario Bros.Inside, were 97 individually wrapped, brand-new copies of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. Each game was wrapped in the same baggie that would have come in annintendowire.com

Really good post that dovetails with a lot of what I said in my Portland Retro Gaming Expo panel last year -- - you should be having fun with your hobby - buy the things you like, keep what sparks joy - don't let "bargain hunting" mean skipping things you like and buying stuff you don't want

Fun flea market trick: if you come across a high school yearbook, check out the Wikipedia section for "notable alumni"

I have just been made aware of a place called "Little Yummy" in Asakusabashi that serves "Forbidden Bacon Cheese Curry" tabelog.com/en/tokyo/A13...

I'm going to VCF West! I mean, I usually go, but this time I will bring a whole bunch of computer games, hardware, ephemera, and other such things to sell. August 1-2 at the Computer History Museum - it's a really fun show if you are a huge nerd vcfed.org/vcf-west-lay...

As a person who covered the original Steam Machines, Steam Controller, visited Valve to talk about it, etc. and watched it all be received rather poorly, it was really interesting to see them basically announce the same thing many years later and see the total 180 opposite reaction

Valve's new Steam Machine was 14 years (and one big failure) in the making. Here's the twisty story behind the Steam maker's decade-long quest to bring PCs to the living room: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

I'm not on Threads but a friend sent me this -- looks like Coco Ichibanya is (finally, after several false starts) coming to the Bay Area, starting in Cupertino!

Was in a travel bookstore and looked up curry rice in the Lonely Planet "Eat Japan" guidebook and the entry bounces between "dismissive" and "passive-aggressive hate"

London game pickups! Got the Master System version of Prince of Persia and Elite Beat Agents from a small retro store called Crazy Thumbs, but the nearby CEX had the deals with Xenon 2 (£8) and FFVI (£26). I have FFVI but it has a big crack in the front of the case, so: upgrade time!

Saw the Totoro stage play and it was freaking amazing. Worth going to London for. You can also eat Cocoichi for lunch and then walk there. I didn't (because we had it last night).
