To paraphrase a couple of people (@betterlegends.bsky.social and @tallertales.bsky.social ) ... It was like entering a room full of strangers, only to find out that you are actually already best friends.

At the end of the weekend, after the final Between Two Cairns podcast recording, we all wandered out into the street, not sure how to leave. People lingered on the corners for a while. We asked "Where are you off to?" and "Will you be here if they do it again next year?" Nobody wanted it to be over.

The game rooms each had a table of available snacks – granola bars, bananas, etc. They brought in doughnuts in the morning and pizza in the late afternoon. Amazing! Brilliant! And there were people walking around the game tables offering bottles of water. What?! So thoughtful!!

I played Perils & Princesses and it was really great. One woman showed up in costume. It was surprisingly gritty. Two characters died. One of them died twice! Ryan Lynch, (@outridercreative.bsky.social) who created and ran the game, was kinda like a muppet (Animal?) with a mustache. Adorable.

I played Wolves Upon the Coast by @lukegearing.bsky.social and the "boast" system is wild!

I attended a parody of Between Two Cairns, called Between Two Piles. Turns out two of my GMs were in it. It was really, really funny. And they made an official/unofficial zine game to go with it. plusoneexp.com/products/bet... Amazing!

I played a Mausritter hack called Mud + Lasers by @bad-quail.itch.io. "A military sci-fantasy hex crawl inspired by the Mimban bits of Solo: a Star Wars Story. Unwilling conscripts fight and die on the front lines ... a desperate few plan their escape." Pretty great! And the lore was DEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
