Here's a tip/trick though: walk into the league entrance and save where it says to save, then load that save in frlg.ips

How many of those are Gen 1 mons? Again, the default game is built around assuming you only have the Kanto dex, so it will not register post Gen 1 mons.

That's the default status in FireRed/LeafGreen to prevent you from getting Pokemon outside of the Kanto dex until you unlock trading/National dex, normally you would only see it happen to like, Golbat, though

I guess there’s stuff like Infinite Fusion that has you start in Kanto and then go through Johto (up to entering a time portal on Mt. Silver so you can go fight Gold) but Infinite Fusion is a pretty particular thing

There’s already hacks like Heart and Soul that’s a full port of HGSS into gen 3 but you would still have a lot of work to reconfigure and make new events for doing johto after kanto (and returning kanto to its gen 1 state).

And when I do want a purer experience there’s always romhacks :) /shilling

I guess I can’t complain too much that the games are adapting to the tastes of its modern audience because ultimately fire emblem is still just really fun gameplay at a baseline, they’d have to fuck it up really damn hard for me to stop enjoying the series as a whole.

But it does just put me a little off that Fire Emblem is a tactics RPG where the formulas are designed to be simple and transparent so you can calculate exact damage and know 100% if a guy will survive or not if you put him in range of these enemies- and that kinda goes by the wayside.

More seriously, I do get wanting to add some leniency because you don’t want a mistake towards the end of a map to mean having to repeat like an hour of gameplay or giving up on one of your favorite guys (I can accept that we’re no longer in the days of Dave the Cavalier with two lines of dialogue).

The Kill Bill sirens going off as I remember all the complaints about how Engage has too many units (it has one of the smaller casts across the entire series) because the average modern FE fan’s main frame of reference is Three Houses

People still often believe that all of the pre-Awakening FE’s are hellishly punishing experiences designed for sickos so whatcha gonna do.

The other part is how much of the modern fandom would categorically refuse to play any Fire Emblem that doesn’t have Casual Mode + a turn rewind (ignore that Genealogy already has an incredibly generous save system, it’s not enough).

I mean a large part of this is that remakes are the way by which people think we get localizations for the JP-only games (until we got the time-limited FE1 version which better fucking not be the path forward).

There’s so much stuff that was built around assumptions that Chapter 2 would be much a stricter blueprint than it actually was (in terms of secret bosses, how other Lightners would be incorporated into the chapter plots, etc.) that all got blown up with Chapter 3/4.

In those games a 40% chance to hit actually has a 40% chance to hit. In 3H, it would have a 32.4% chance to hit. fireemblemwiki.org/wiki/True_hit

Okay so you know about how fire emblem lies about your hit chances? Well the way it lies in three houses is different from how it lies in fates/shadows of valentia/engage, in a way that makes a displayed hit chance of less than 50 less likely to hit in 3H, than in those other 3 games.
