He has plenty of close friends, and a real family, but romantically there's always distance. Even when he's fully head over heels, a part of him will always fear filling that hole in his heart. Giving himself someone to lose, or turning his back on The Oath through happiness.

We've always gotten various shades of "I can fix her" or "she can never know" doomed romances for Bruce. The relationships with Selina, St.Cloud, Vale and even Talia work because they understand him (for better or worse), but they aren't *like* him. Nobody is.

This is so killer!

This piece was such a fun challenge. The shading is done in layered ink washes/watercolor. The moody red background was actually a mix of way brighter pinks & oranges. I rendered all of it knowing that I'd heighten the contrast with a backlit scan, I had no idea if it would turn out how I imagined.
