I’m so sad Bill Oddie left us. He was sick for some time and I wrote to him. He auditioned me for The Pembroke Revue in 1963 and I stepped into his roles for The Edinburgh Festival when the Cambridge Footlights went to the West End. We watched England win the World Cup together at Wembley in ‘66.

On the menu tonight: a pasta dish (sort of) of my own devising - rigatoni with chicken and bacon in a creamy pesto sauce. Lots of cracked black pepper for that extra bite. Green salad on the side.

As an Aussie, I think compulsory voting (with some form of PR) is a brilliant idea. A GE then reflects the views of all voters. Your 1st vote at 18 becomes a right of passage. Move polling day to a Saturday. Finally, get the 'democracy sausage' local fundraising tradition going.
