She was polishing chain, it got away from her, wrapped around the finger and popped it right off. She decided that if people were going to stare, she might as well make it be at a piece of her jewelry. So every few years she'd make herself a new finger to wear.

Including the woman who I met with a collection of beautiful silver and gold women's index fingers in a cabinet. I thought they were an interesting ring/art piece. And they were... but they were also her mom's replacement finger, after she lost her real one to the polishing machine
