Last night I dreamed I was visiting the moon, which had been terraformed. It was nice! A little chilly, but with pretty grassy meadows and pine groves. Anyway, there was something there stalking me—NOT part of the terraforming project, should NOT exist. Woke up before I could get a good look at it.

Me yesterday evening, for no clear reason: “Nothing good has ever happened or ever could happen. Joy is a fake concept. I should launch myself directly into the sun.” Me this afternoon, after an incredibly awful migraine hit me like a bus: “...Ah. So that’s what that was about.”

I’ll always find it funny, the dates that a lot of classic science fiction writers chose for their futuristic stories. “In the far-distant, unrecognizable world of… 25 years from now…”

This is still getting stuck in my head periodically, BTW.

In today’s episode of “the internet has never met a child before”: hundreds of people liked a comment claiming 18 months is not old enough to have interests and/or opinions.

Finally got around to reading the latest Sworn Soldier book by T. Kingfisher, and I have important feedback: Fragment and the Wholeness would be a good name for a band.

Yesterday it started raining hard, after two weeks of very hot, very dry weather, and my entire family immediately felt anxious for no reason. Apparently we still have some flood trauma, lol.

My father is an old white man from rural Texas, which seems to make other white people miscalculate what they can say around him. In the Midwest someone tried claiming the Civil War was really about states’ rights, and Dad immediately turned into that “States’ rights to do WHAT, motherfucker?” meme.

My three free months of Kindle Unlimited are about to expire. Time to lock in my 20 choices to download to my Kindle before putting it in airplane mode.

So, apparently Publisher’s Marketplace got their hands on the manuscript and ran it through AI to check if it was AI, and AI claimed it was AI. I have no idea whether it is or not! But I do know that’s a shitty thing to do to somebody, and not an accurate way to make a determination.

Seeing an author have a 7-figure book deal pulled over AI suspicions, bc they couldn’t “verify how [the book] was produced,” makes me wonder: How DO you verify that? I write by hand, do initial edits, then type the result. How could I prove anything from that first, fairly polished digital draft?

Choosing to read a book set entirely in the trenches of WWI, and then complaining that there aren’t enough female characters, feels like one of those “tried to order a milkshake from a hardware store” sorts of situations.

I don’t listen to audiobooks much, but one of my favorite uses for them is as an alternate way to read a book with really unusual formatting that trips up my eyes. So I’m an hour into Daniel Kraus’s Angel Down (a novel written as one continuous sentence), and DAMN.
