🌐 Economic policy, financial security, Houston sports. Not necessarily in that order. 🌐

I don't actually have a formal position on this but *if* you think what the Dodgers are doing is bad in a competitive balance way then yes players will ultimately have their compensation depressed. It's literally the only solution

“actually it’s the other teams that are at fault” is something you say to make yourself feel smart. when a sport loses competitive balance it’s bad actually. it’s boring. it’s more incentive for me to never care about baseball at a serious level

People in encampments should be provided with safe housing. But at some point the encampments need to be disbanded by city officials.

Michael Hobbes

Powell interviews a local anti-homeless ghoul who notes that encampment sweeps don't result in meaningful change because homeless people just return a few days later. Yes, Michael. What is the solution to this? We should just incarcerate them forever for being homeless?

1) popularism 2) the Houston Astros broke the rules but the form of cheating they used did not confer upon them any on-field advantage and the 2017 world series is in no way in question; that dumb jocks think they had an advantage is not evidence that the cheating "worked"

Elixir of Progress

I have a new policy: if your account is active it needs to regularly talk about at least 2 things other than AI for me to follow you. I am tired of people who's entire personality is logging on to BlueSky to either boost or pan AI.

Wearing Astros gear obnoxiously for the rest of the weekend

What has prevented my EV curiosity is 1) charging multiple times on a DC-New York trip, something I do multiple times per year, and adding ~1 hour each way sounds like a pain, 2) a buddy said he can't make a Richmond - DC trip on one charge on a heavy traffic day. Come on

post malone ergo propter malone

I have heard your thoughts about road trips and yeah it is somewhat harder to charge on the road than it is to get gas (not much tho). but home with a home charger is a bigger delta the other direction, so for us it’s been considerably net easier

Here is the New York Times "underreaction" to Trump's violation of the country:

Dan Froomkin/Press Watch/Heads Up News

This is a completely insane interview in that the things they are discussing are so alarming that their heads should be exploding and yet they are calm. History will be unkind to those, like the NYT, who underreacted to Trump’s violation of the country. 1/2 www.nytimes.com/2026/07/31/o...

The electorate does not exist such that the 51st vote won't be a SineManchin type

Encinitas Highlands Surfer

What big tent gets you ideally is, if you gain a large enough margin, then Sinemanchins' votes are not vetoes, and you've pretty much solved the problem.

people on here are genuinely on here for bullying and uniformity of opinion, they're not on here to be on a social media site

AdotSad

Nobody wanted to say it at the time because he's universally loathed on here but the way people were posting about Jesse Signal was also deranged and once the site lacked any easy punching bags those same people just moved on to someone like Stancil

people say online is not real life but I'm arguing with a buddy who went to see the Odyssey and complained about how ticket prices have increased (he has children and doesn't go to the movies much any more) and I used FRED to show him that movie ticket prices have actually lagged behind overall CPI
