I feel like it was not talked about enough that Loretta Smith basically suggested she wants to shoot activists in council chambers.

At the work session on the Moda Center yesterday, Portland City Councilor Loretta Smith highlighted what she saw as the Blazers walking away from the negotiating table. Blazers leadership has consistently alluded to high taxes and Portland’s economy as part of their issue with the term sheet deal.

Love watching a Blazers dickhead get mad when a councilor asks about the most basic of financials for the renovation. Like these guys are actually fucking crazy. He near directly mirrored Trump saying they have concepts of a plan. Morillo was absolutely right to call out the bs word salad answer.

I think if Tina Kotek wants to win re-election she needs to do Mamdani one better: state-run Burgervilles. This is the only way.

I got an email about delays in the Portland e-bike rebate that said this: "We are writing to notify you that the next rebate release has been delayed to [insert reason here e.g. allow retailers and existing rebate recipients adequate time to order and stock e-bikes]." So that's a bit odd.

Credit where’s it’s due, Councilors Kanal and Pirtle-Guiney both pushed back on the idea of using PCEF funds for the Moda Center deal. Basically they said they’d need to see more before doing so, such as what the actual renovations will be (still insane we don’t know this).

ICE impersonators assaulted an individual in Oregon on Friday. It feels absurd that we have to pass laws that tell police to investigate when they see someone making an arrest who is not clearly a LEO. Is this not what they’re supposed to do already? And worse, the police push back against it.

So I went to the Moda Center town hall yesterday in D2. Walked away genuinely jaded with our political process. I think it’s safe to say emotion is guiding this conversation. Fiscal responsibility is in the back seat. Don’t really know what to say. Read all my thoughts here:

OR AFL-CIO says a strike looms for 30 system operators at Portland General Electric. With 85+ wildfires raging in Central Oregon, the strike could come at a crisis point. PGE has reportedly proposed pay cuts and dropping operators from pensions, which the union deems unacceptable.

An “officer-involved shooting in Madison that left a man dead.” Jfc you might as well wipe the cop’s ass while you’re at it. Passive voice on more TRT than Pete Hegseth. An officer shot a Black man in the head three times at point-blank range.

Portland Neoliberal (noun): An individual, most commonly a white man, whose passion is to remain uninformed while publicly expressing strong political opinions. Phrases to look out for: “I’m actually a progressive…” “Portland was great before…” “The homeless [insert unsubstantiated opinion]…”

I also want to note, this is not going to get better. The drop off in births from the recession will hit university enrollment hard the next few years. PSU is already struggling. State intervention may be necessary to prevent financial collapse. Continued austerity could mean academic collapse.

I have no patience for billionaires complaining about poor people not paying for their midlife crisis project.
