The vegan restaurant really got me though. I spent like 25 bucks on an eggplant dish because it was the thing I was LEAST allergic to on the menu. It was early days into my food allergies, so it was mostly itchy mouth and eczema. Today though I'd walk because I'm not risking anaphylaxis.

People are WEIRD about food and I say this as a solid omnivore who made vegan sushi (honestly, 90% for food safety reasons) and general tsos cauliflower for potlocks.

Every single thing at the BBQ was beef based basically but they had put aside a little bit of chicken for two people who could not eat beef for religious reasons and when I said I don't eat beef I was told I could if I was wanted to and denied the chicken.

told "I could eat beef if I really want to" by a friend during a BBQ since I wasn't eschewing it for religious reasons. It goes both ways IMHO.

FWIW I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian but I've been told flat out that "I could find something" after I said I couldn't eat anything on a vegan menu because of food allergies, lectured by a friend about how the meat was not sustainable during a dinner I had invited her to (that was veggie friendly!)
