I’m still wondering why these 4 compounding experts left this FDA Advisory Committee before their terms ended, making it easier for RFK Jr to pack the Committee with non-expert peptide promoters who were sure to vote his way, science & safety be damned.

With this peptides debacle, RFK Jr has made a farce of the federal Advisory Committee process: - appointing unqualified, legally conflicted members - proclaiming — falsely — that obvious conflicts of interest don’t exist This is a sham proceeding — not worthy of the public’s trust.

Here’s an example of the NYT normalizing corruption. NYT: “it is highly unusual to appoint”people who profit from a specific product to an Advisory Committee that will vote on that product. It’s not “highly unusual.” It’s unprecedented — and illegal. Call it what it is: Corruption

Good point. The FDA may not have wanted to go the waiver route for that reason. Also: waivers can (legally) be granted only if specific criteria are met (e.g., the govt's need for member's expertise outweighs the potential conflict of interest.) But these RFK Jr appointees don't have expertise.

I don't often find myself in agreement with Big Pharma, but PhRMA was correct about this Advisory Committee meeting -- the FDA needs to "adopt and publicly disclose robust conflict-of-interest screening criteria for PCAC members." The FDA's conclusory claim of no conflicts is simply not credible.

All of RFK Jr's unqualified and conflicted appointees voted to ease restrictions on peptide BPC-157 (free base). All the actual experts appointed by FDA staff as temporary members voted against. 2 long-standing members, pharmacist Serumaga & doctor-professor Rebello, also voted against.

An FDA official announced the government's (surprising? inexplicable?) *conclusion* that the members of the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) have no conflicts of interest. The official spoke for less than 5 minutes & did not explain *how* the govt reached that conclusion. #peptides
