Great-grandparents, as my oldest grandparent was 13 in 1926: Obviously I would be a wife as very few women had jobs. But I would be educated to university level, and the wife of a well-known and high-placed Congregational minister (two of four great-grandmothers), or a farmer's wife (the other two)

I have been spending a long weekend in Italy mostly just sitting with my beloved best friend who is very ill in bed. I have not had such wonderful conversations about ideas and Indian history and culture and literature in literally years. I feel like I have been starved of nutrients.

Still true, yesterday, today, and forever. A reminder from a year ago.

Ah, home sweet home. It's looking distinctly and un-Britishly dusty and brown in England I have to say.

And men: follow @dieworkwear.bsky.social — he will give you the skinny on the lightest Italian suits if your office is still forcing you to wear such things. Women: linen or Indian cotton dresses with sandals. No to shorts. Big no. That's for all genders. No. This is not, in fact, hard.
