Yep, to the avg American, DSA means you are some sort of ultra-liberal. The broad Dem voting base likes the idea of ultra-liberalism and will sympathize even if they don’t personally believe in it. The better DSA caucuses realize this and are using it; the worse ones realize it and hate it bitterly.

This is broadly good for both Dems and DSA imo, but it means that the beliefs of folks self-ID’d as “favorable to DSA” is going to increasingly not align with what National DSA espouses. Hell, I ID as favorable to DSA (or at least most DSA candidates) and I disagree with a good bit of their policy.

Yeah I just plainly do not believe there is a mass of American socialists who have remained 100% dormant until now. What is happening is that DSA is now accepted as within the liberal/Democratic sphere as the leftward flank, which helps a lot of libs say they’re favorable to them on principle.

Especially coming from people who vocally, constantly hate and avoid the Nov ‘24 joiners and Maddowites and pinpoint them as the website’s eternal September, because before people talked about more than just politics. This is ostensibly what people want! Don’t take the goddamn clickbait!

Along with Leckie’s own Ancillary Justice, this is absolutely top tier stuff. They’re my two favorite recent sci fi works hands down - the sequels for each are absolutely worth it too.

No, I don’t think it’s deadnaming to just specifically not use someone’s nickname. It would probably be bad to call him by his birth name imo but it still feels distinct from deadnaming. Also it genuinely pisses me off a little they let him be “JD” on the ballot.
