Before the president gets on television tonight to peddle lies and conspiracy theories, here is what you need to know: The 2020 election was not stolen. We won, and he lost.

Joan Sebastian Guerrero should still be alive. This is the second time in a week that ICE agents have killed someone who — by their own admission — was not the subject of their operation. Now Sebastian is dead, his killing witnessed by his three-year-old daughter wearing her Bluey pajamas.

The news cycle has moved on since the Louisiana v. Callais decision on April 29, but we cannot. My thoughts on our continued fight for voting rights:

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo's family called him "El mundo entero" — the whole world. Two days ago, he was shot and killed by ICE agents on his way to work.

When America is at our best, we look out for one another and know that we have much more in common than what separates us. That idea has been fundamental to the fabric of our nation since our founding.

What has carried our nation forward is not the absence of challenges, but the willingness of ordinary people to meet them with hope, courage, and action. As we celebrate America’s 250th, we must continue to fight for one another, our democracy, and the promise of what we can build together.
