In this story, I reflect on how staying longer in the landscape can reveal possibilities that aren't immediately obvious.

The photographs that mattered most to me emerged after the classic scene had been captured. A passing storm, a rainbow, and a morning spent studying the water's surface led me toward images that were less about place and more about perception.

I got the scenic reflection shots that everyone seeks at the Ashburton Lakes. The real discovery came afterwards.
