When I saw The Odyssey, I wore my Super Mario Brothers shirt which I thought made sense. My wife didn’t agree. But it’s about a man on a very long journey to get to a castle and rescue a woman of royal lineage. Along the way he has to like fight monsters and try to take shortcuts. It fits perfectly.
For instance, Homer was clearly unfamiliar with the Bronze Age use of chariots in battle. He knew they had them but depicts them totally inaccurately. The weapons described are a mix of Bronze Age weapons and weapons from Homer’s own time. The boats in the Odyssey are closer to Iron Age design.
Jon MezzeraI wonder if people who complain about the historical inaccuracies in The Odyssey are familiar with the fact that both of Homer’s epics are filled with historical inaccuracies. They were written centuries after the end of the Bronze Age by someone unfamiliar with Bronze Age warfare and seafare.
